Royal Holloway University announced on Wednesday evening that it will be carrying out its summer examinations online.
It is not yet clear how this would work, but more information is expected soon in order to help students prepare for exams. For students, the university reaffirmed today that all non-cancelled assessments, such as coursework assignments, should be completed to the original deadlines, but that the college would consider any extenuating circumstances and extension requests “sympathetically” given the ongoing situation.
Many Universities in the United Kingdom have started to move teaching online, using a video conferencing software such as Zoom or MS Teams, but some institutions have stopped teaching altogether until at least the Easter Break.
The university also announced that summer graduation ceremonies, which take place annually in July, will be postponed.
This announcement comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces the closure of schools in the UK from Friday. Some schools are likely to remain open to look after children of what the Government calls ‘key’ workers. It is yet to be announced exactly what qualifies as a ‘key’ worker, but this is likely to follow later on Wednesday evening or on Thursday.
