Overpass live at The Roundhouse, London

One of the most exciting acts out of the UK’s second city proved their ‘arena-sized indie rock’ sound belongs on the biggest stages when opening The Roundhouse, London, for rock n’ roll powerhouses The Amazons. Overpass unites lead singer/guitarist Max Newbold, bassist Indie Armstrong, guitarist Elliot Rawlings and drummer Jake Bishop. Having played Reading and Leeds Festival, the band gained early momentum with praised supporting slots for artists such as Inhaler, Wunderhorse and The Wombats. The midland quartet performed after the success of the release of their ‘Dependant’ EP in February, leading to their own headline tour of the UK and EU in Autumn 2025. With each emphatic performance and a tour under their belt, the band have set up 2026 to be their biggest year yet.

The wide stage of The Roundhouse perfectly suits the emotive, anthemic sound Overpass brought to the venue. The bold purple lighting set the tone to energise the already warmed-up crowd, thanks to a formidable earlier performance from support act Balancing Act. Known for their strong live performances, Overpass looked right at home on The Roundhouse stage. The set list had a balanced blend of catchy melodies and gripping guitar riffs, guiding the audience through the beginning of a guitar-led night of music they were hoping for.

The seven-track support set list had more than enough to win over fans from the London venue, expertly displaying the dynamics of their sound in time for The Amazons to take the stage. Starting with tracks from their new EP, ‘Slow’ allows Newbold’s vocals to fill the room, capturing the audience before Rawlings’ expertise shine through in ‘Like No Other’ with lead lines that fans of The Amazons would find themselves a custom to.

Newbold introduces a new unreleased song from the band mid-way through the set, ‘Union Station’, displaying the band’s indie sound with another anthemic chorus that would leave audiences anticipating its eventual release. The audience are completely won over by the end of the set with the group’s more well-known tracks. Their penultimate ‘3AM’ has the crowd moving with its catchy chorus and danceable sound, before ending with ‘Beautiful’; which creates a notable togetherness in the room as the Newbold encourages the crowd to sing along with its powerful chorus.

The band left the stage with an ovation after stamping their mark on the night, leaving a memorable sample of their sound sure to have audiences listening to their music after the show. As well as setting up the audience for a night of guitar-led rock n’ roll, the band have definitely set themselves up for new heights in the coming year. With more music to come, Overpass are a band well worth keeping an eye on.
